Carl Max Taute
10 July 1926 – 16 June 2017

Born in Fort Monroe, Virginia, his family moved to Massachusetts, then to Sharpsburg, Maryland, where his father was the Antietam National Monument Superintendent. His family remained in Sharpsburg until his junior year in high school when his father was promoted to the Gettysburg National Monument. He graduated from Gettysburg High School, then began college.

World War II was requiring service, and after graduating from OCS, 2nd Lt. Taute served in the Pacific Theater, stationed primarily in the Philippines. After the war ended, he returned to Maryland, and married his elementary school sweetheart, Rayetta DeLauney.

Carl completed his college education with a bachelor's degree in business, and worked in the grocery business. He and Rayetta started a family, but were interrupted when he was called back to service for the Korean War.

Upon returning from Korea, they briefly moved to Wisconsin, then Ft. Wayne, Indiana, briefly to Pittsburgh, and then to Billings, Montana. After a few years in Billings, he got away from the grocery business, and tried his hand as an independent business owner/operator. Eventually he had several laundromats in the Billings area, including one that offered laundry services, and washer/dryer contracts with several apartment complexes.

After his wife, Rayetta, passed away, Carl moved to Southern California to be neared to his grandchildren. But the population and the traffic didn't sit well with him, and he moved out of state to a less populated area, Las Vegas. He remained in Las Vegas until the last four years of his life, when health issues forced him to seek medical attention where he could be closer to family in Southern California.

Carl is survived by his son, Russell (Diana), two grandsons, Allen (Natalie) and Grant (Julia), and four great-granddaughters.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday June 22nd, 2017 at Douglass & Zook, Chapel of The Foothills, Monrovia, CA at 11:00AM.

Interment will take place on Saturday June 24th, 2017 at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg, Maryland.
