Beulah Mae Charles of Alhambra, California went home to be with Jesus on July 4, 2026 from her residence at Atherton Baptist Homes after a brief period of illness. Beulah was born April 13, 1924 in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania. The daughter of Avery and Fannie Kanode, she was married to Paul D. Charles on June 24, 1949 in Pennsylvania. They were married for 56 years prior to Paul's death in 2005. In 1948, she graduated with an A. B. degree from Beulah College in Upland, California. Fresh out of college, the couple moved to the San Joaquin Valley of Central California. She was a faithful, supportive pastor's wife for 18 years while Paul served as pastor of three Brethren in Christ churches. First was at the Community Church in Waukena, California for five years, during which time daughter Beverly and son Steven were born. Next was at the Pleasant Hill BIC Church in Brown County, Kansas for four years, during which time their son Paul Douglas was born. After living in Kansas City for two years, the family moved to Pasadena, California, where Paul pastored the Pasadena BIC Church on Altadena Drive for seven years. In 1968, the family started attending Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena. Then in 1970, the family moved to Altadena, California, and Beulah lived in the house there that she loved for 45 years. In 2015, she moved to Atherton Baptist Homes in Alhambra, California, where she lived for eleven years up until the time of her death.
Beulah's life was characterized by her love for Jesus and her love for her family. During the later years of her life, she was ready to go home to be with Jesus. In the morning when she would wake up, she would remind Jesus that she didn't hear the trumpet call during the night, and she's still here, so He must have something for her to do. Her life verse was Philippian's 4:13; "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Her favorite Bible chapter was Psalm 23, especially verse 6 ("Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life"), and it has done that for her. There are a lot of songs that she liked, but her favorite song was All the Way My Savior Leads Me, written by Fanny Crosby. God has been faithful to her over her life, watching over her and taking care of her and blessing her for 102 years. She was a good wife, mother, and grandmother. Up until the end, she would pray for each one of her family by name every day. She is survived by a daughter and two sons, six grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She has left behind an amazing legacy of faithfulness, service, and love for her family.
