Barbara Cervantes

November 2, 1931 — October 30, 2023

Barbara Cervantes passed away on October 30, 2023. Regularly, on Halloween she would be getting ready to dress up for her senior center Halloween party costume contest — and WIN IT too. She was quite the social butterfly and loved parties.
Barbara almost made it to her 92nd birthday (November 2, 1931).
She had a full life.
She was daughter to Walter and Gertrude Davis; the sister to Uncle Bud and Aunty Jan; the mother to three girls: Arlene, Rosanna, and Janet; wife to Alfonso. And the grandmother to David, Jenny, Aubrey, Ashley, Amber, Autumn, James, Frank, Lisa, and Alan. And the great grandmother to Michael, Sophie Joy, and Lily Rose.
She was an established artist and sold her paintings on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Pasadena as well as in galleries in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
She loved ice cream. She would never say no to ice cream.
She was a tough cookie, who prevailed over much hardship in life.
She lost her father while young in a tragic accident and had to live in an orphanage with her brother (Uncle Buddy) until her mother could get them out. She is with them now.
She survived polio and was hardcore about being able to walk. Even when faced with Post-Polio Syndrome later in life too.
She survived many other diseases (such as scarlet fever, measles, mumps, car accidents, and more).
She lived through the Great Depression and World War II. After the war was over she was on a train trip full of GIs and had a deck of cards. She played with the returning soldiers and won so much they did not want to play with her anymore. She was really good at poker.
The Korean War was also very much a part of her life. At the time, her young husband (she was 19 and he was 20), Alfonso, had to go and fight. He was gone for several years and she gave birth and raised their first daughter until his return.
She also did a solo bike ride through Europe in her 50s for art research.
11/2/31 to 10/30/23 — Rest in Peace Barbara Arlene Cervantes (née Davis).
