Barbara Louise Pennington Wood Ballard passed away after a brave two-year struggle with ovarian cancer Tuesday, December 7th 2010 in Vancouver, Washington. She was 74. Barbara Louise Pennington was born in Springdale Arkansas to Arminta Elvina Rich and Green Lee Pennington who were the parents of 10 children – 9 girls and 1 boy. In the early 1940’s Arminta migrated to Ceres, California with 7 of the 10 children. Barbara was active in musical theater, choir and dance, and graduated in the first senior class from Thomas Downey High School in Modesto, California. Also active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she met Byron Ray Wood of Boise, Idaho through church activities. They were married in 1956 in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Barbara or “Bobbie” and Ray were married 33 years until Ray passed away in 1989. They had 3 children, Michael Ray Wood, Kevin Scott Wood and Bartley David Wood. They made their homes in Alhambra, Monrovia and Arcadia, California and had just relocated to Glendora, California when Ray passed away. Bobbie and Ray were a very popular performing duet, both singing with the Southern California Mormon Choir and other musical organizations for many years. Following Ray’s death, Bobbie relocated to Fallbrook, California. She was married in 2000 to Robert H. Ballard. Barbara and Bob relocated to Vancouver, Washington in 2006, where Barbara was again active in music and choir. Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert H. Ballard in Vancouver; her 3 children, Michael, living in Glendora, California; Kevin, living in Draper, Utah; and Bart, living in Vancouver, Washington. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren 4 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters, Ora Vay Worthy, Nina Lois Faria, Gladys Dee Towell and Ruby Gail Ward. She is also survived by her brother, Wendell Wayne Pennington. Vancouver memorial services will be directed by Evergreen Memorial Gardens, (360) 892-6060 and held Monday, 13 December at the Cascade Park Ward, 13600 S.E. McGillivray Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98683. Visitation is at 11:00 a.m. and services at noon. Glendora memorial services will be directed by Douglass and Zook Chapel of Remembrance Funeral Home, (626) 358-3244 and held Wednesday, 15 December at the Glendora Stake Center, 2121 E. Route 66, Glendora, CA 91741. Visitation is at 11:00 and services are at noon. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California. Please use gate 10.
