Arthur Burt Moore

Arcadia

Arthur Burt Moore, a distinguished patent attorney and loving husband and father, died unexpectedly at the age of 71 on Tuesday, March 21 at USC Arcadia Hospital, with his wife, Dominique, and daughter, Christine, at his side.

Arthur was born in New York City and grew up in Roslyn, New York, graduating magna cum laude in physics from Harvard University where he went on to earn his law degree. He began his law career with the Dennison Manufacturing Company in Framingham, Mass., and later the Emhart Corporation in Farmington Ct., returning to Dennison in 1988 and moving his young family with the company to Pasadena, California after it merged with Avery International Corporation to become Avery Dennison.

In 1983, he was admitted as Attorney and Counselor of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Arthur was a former chief intellectual property officer for Avery Dennison, and later vice president and chief counsel for Westinghouse Digital before ending his career in private practice with the Los Angeles offices of Dentons and then Foley & Lardner LLP.

Arthur was also a talented and dedicated bridge player. He and Dominique, his wife of 39 years, were well known on the contract bridge circuit (ACBL) where they built many rich and lasting friendships. He also delighted in sharing logic puzzles and brainy board games of all types. But ruthless as Arthur might be in bridge tournaments, the hearts table or in marathon rounds of Risk, he was highly esteemed by all who knew him for his gentle honesty and his keen sense of fairness and the greater good.

A loving husband and father, Arthur enjoyed being around all of his family very much. He had wonderful relationships with his siblings Rebecca, Liz, Frank and Danny, his step-siblings Tom, Betsy, John and Donny and his sister-in-law Isabelle. All their respective families were so special to him! And all his cousins (the Pattersons, the von Mehrens, the Hodermarskys) were very dear to him also, as well as their families. What great family reunions over the years and so many treasured memories!

In addition to his wife, Dominique, Arthur is survived by his daughter, Christine, and her husband, Jordan Hassay; his aunt, Nancy Hodermarsky, his siblings, Rebecca Moore,  Elizabeth Moore, and Daniel B. Harris, his step-siblings, Thomas Harris, Donald E. Harris, and Diana Elizabeth (Betsy) Lifschultz; and their families. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Pierre Vintéjoux, and sister-in-law, Isabelle Le Blanc. He leaves behind many dear cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Arthur is predeceased by his father, Earle K. Moore (Dick), and his spouse, Kathy Muto, his mother, Sarah Burt, and her spouse, Donald Harris, his brother, Frank C. Moore, his stepbrother, John Harris, and his mother-in-law, Jeannette Vintéjoux.

Arthur treasured every moment spent with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed!
