Anthony A. Sbarounis, of Oceanside, California, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died peacefully in his sleep on August 19, 2009 after a year-long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Eve, a daughter, Christine Overley, and her husband, Al, a daughter, Cynthia Mularz and her husband, Wayne, a daughter Georgette Sbarounis, a son, John and his wife, Adrianna, and a son, Carl, and his wife, Jacky. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a sister Despina Brandwein. Anthony was born in Athens, Greece on October 31, 1936. At age 10 his father, Athanase, was posted as an ambassador from Greece to work at the Brenton Woods Conference, and it was at that time that the family, including a brother, John, and a sister, Despina, immigrated to the United States. He was preceeded in death by his father, Athanase, his mother, Georgette Markizini, and his brother, John. After graduating from West Lafayette High School, Tony attended Purdue University. In 1958 he joined the navy and worked as a corpsman stationed in Long Beach, California. He loved California, and especially the So. Bay area of Los Angeles where he worked as a real estate broker. A private scattering of his ashes will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rural Area Medical, an organization that he praised for its fine work. We will always love you and you will always be in our hearts.
