Annie Mae Brown

September 4, 1946 — September 12, 2024

Annie Mae Brown peacefully transitioned to the loving arms of God on September 12, 2024. Born on September 4, 1946, in Ventura, CA, to the late Margaret Brown, Annie was the youngest of three children. The family relocated to Monrovia, CA when she was young, where Annie attended school and graduated from Monrovia High School.

From a young age, Annie accepted Christ and became a faithful member of Second Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Dr. William LaRue Dillard, she actively served in the choir and as the church clerk for many years.

Annie had a passion for teaching young girls etiquette and class. In the early 1990s, she and her friends founded L.A.C.E. (Ladies Association of Class and Etiquette), where young girls in the community were given opportunities to participate in fashion shows, brunch cruises, parties, and more. L.A.C.E. became known for hosting unforgettable events in the nineties.

Annie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Annie loved being a grandmother, her grandkids affectionately called her duchess. She was renowned for offering the best advice, her sharp wit, and her compassionate heart. Honest, confident, intelligent, classy, and giving, Annie left an impression on everyone she met. She loved football, particularly watching Tom Brady on Sundays with her grandson Ryder. She also cherished shopping trips with her beloved “road dog” Ryan, and found joy in cooking, passing down her love for food to her grandchildren. Annie was also a fashionista. She had self proclaimed herself as having the baddest afro in Monrovia.

Annie is survived by her daughter, Nedra Brown-Mitchell; bonus daughter, Tanya Gresham; son-in-laws, William and Reggie; and three grandchildren: Ryan and Ryder Mitchell, and Brooklyn Gresham. She also leaves behind nieces Yvonne Williams, Jennifer Barnes, Margy Barnes, Tammy Barnes, and Pinky Williams; nephew, Joey Barnes; and a host of great nieces, cousins, and friends. Annie’s life and memory are also cherished by her dear friends Marie Chambers, Viola Moreland, Clara Mency, Patricia Robinson, Claudette Ellis, Timmy Mason, and Tommy Mason.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Brown; sister, Bennie Mae Williams; and brother, Jimmie Lee Brown.

Good night, “Dahling.” Job well done. We will see you in the morning.
