AB possessed a very quiet demeanor much like the actor Clint Eastwood, but whenever he spoke the room listened and heard his every word.
The sunrise for AB (Abraham) started in Mount Olive, Mississippi on August 10, 1937 to the union of Iland and Sophronia Bryant. He was the fourth child of nine (9) children, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. He attended Lincoln High School and played football at a time when leather helmets were used without a facemask. AB relocated to Gulfport, Mississippi before his 15th birthday and began working at the Sun & Sand Restaurant to support his family still in Mount Olive.
In the year of 1960, the Manifest Destiny within the United States History books meant to go the far West of the Mississippi River which AB did. At age 23, he relocated to San Francisco, California with his first cousin Arthur (Jack) Chism. He began working at the University of California San Francisco in the Millbury Cafeteria, currently known as Millberry Union Conference Center. While working out of the Millberry Cafeteria initially as a cook, he retired as the Sous-Chef for the UCSF cardiologist in 1989. AB met his beloved wife Shirley James while assisting Jack at his automobile repair shop in the early part of 1967. On September 18, 1968, AB and Shirley married, enjoyed life together raising a family, and actually attended four (4) Super Bowl because of their love for the San Francisco 49ers. He was very passionate about cooking, loved working on cars, and going to the car shows in Reno, NV called Hot August Nights. The union of AB and Shirley spawned three (3) sons: Marvin (Tony) James (McDougal), Adrian Burnett McDougal, and Cliffton Sean-Russell McDougal.
Early on, AB would be excited to be driving his family in the hot summers back to the state of Mississippi to visit his family in the cities of Jackson, Mount Olive, and Gulfport. AB possessed a very quiet demeanor much like the actor Clint Eastwood, but whenever he spoke the room listened and heard his every word. Even though AB was no longer a member of any church or congregation and before watching any football or basketball game, he regularly watched every single Sunday morning church services by various television pastors such as Dr. Fred Price, Jr., Bishop T.D. Jakes, Dr. Charles Stanley, Creflo Dollar, Jr., and Bishop I.V. Hillard during the twilight his life while having breakfast. He even watched church service conducted by Pastor Chris Bourne of Second Baptist Church of Monrovia via YouTube. Watching the television was AB’s form of reading…
AB was preceded in death by his wife Shirley McDougal, his mother and father, his two (2) sisters: Ruth Mae and Aquila, his four brothers: Robert, John, and William, his best-friend and first-cousin Jack Chism, his nephews Bug (James) and Ernest. He leaves behind here on planet Earth his son Tony (Blanche) of Duarte, CA; Adrian of Bakersfield, CA, Cliffton (Erika) of Fremont, CA, his grandchildren: Malik McDougal of Des Moines, Iowa, Eboni Robinson of Capitol Heights, Maryland; Elijah Terrell James of Duarte, CA; Kiera McDougal of Fremont, CA, and Ameir McDougal of Fremont, CA; three (3) sisters: Rubbie L. Jones of Gulfport, Mississippi; Jessie L Daniels of Gulfport, Mississippi; Bobbie (Walter) Jackson of Shreveport, Louisiana; sister-in-law Wanda Johnson (Minister Donnie Johnson); a congregation of cousins, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, extended family, loved ones, and friends.
AB was summoned by the Lord with permanent retirement and to be reunited with wife Shirley and other loved ones. Quietly, the sunset upon on AB in Duarte, California, when God called him to the heavens through the Hands of Jesus on June 12, 2026.
